US timber company counts on expertise from Austria
Two fully-automated wood spot repair systems from Fill Machine Engineering have been deployed at timber company Roseburg in Oregon.
Fill Machine Engineering supplied Roseburg with two fully-automated speedfiller wood spot repair systems for plywood boards. The renowned company based in Dillard, Oregon, has more than 3.000 employees in North America. Each of the supplied Fill speedfiller visco plywood systems repairs around 500 board surfaces (each measuring 2.5 x 1.3 meters) with an average of six flaws per hour. Cracks, knots, and resin patches are recorded by a scanner and passed to the spot-repair portals. Each of the three serially connected, high-speed portals is fitted with two combined units that can mill out, fill (1-component putty), or repair with 2-component polyfiller (PU or epoxy). All operations are performed fully automatically and, to live up to the speedfiller name, extremely quickly and precisely.

Roseburg is the largest family-owned producer of timber-based building products in North America. State-of-the-art retouching technology from Fill is already in daily use in the major plywood markets of Chile and Finland, to the customers´ utmost satisfaction.
Modular construction allows individual configuration
The speedfiller visco plywood spot repair system facilitates fully automated repairing of plywood boards in consistently high quality. The system also features tremendous speed and efficiency. A scanner detects any surface flaws and passes this information to the spot-repair portals. In a continuous process, the flaws can be milled out, filled (with 1-component putty), and repaired with 2-component PU by means of six combined units on three portals. A highly dynamic controller manages the complex synchronization of the processing axes on the vacuum conveyor. Lightweight axes in the individual portals contribute to quickest possible processing. The conveyor is designed in such a way that the panels are drawn in and held flat with suction cups. They therefore remain fixed and stable throughout the process. Thanks to its proven modular construction, the speedfiller system can be adapted flexibly to individual customer requirements.
