Humanoid Robotics as a Catalyst for Greater Autonomy in Industrial Manufacturing
Fill Machine Engineering (Gurten, Austria) and Hexagon Robotics (Zurich, Switzerland) are launching a collaboration aimed at integrating humanoid robots into industrial production systems, thereby sustainably increasing the autonomy of modern manufacturing processes. As part of the collaboration, AEON - a humanoid robot developed by Hexagon Robotics - will be tested in Fill’s real-world production environment. The focus is on applications such as machine loading, inspection, and use in production lines. The goal is to evaluate the technological and economic value of humanoid robotics in everyday industrial settings.
Gurten, April 30, 2026 – Following successful demonstrations in real industrial environments, Fill and Hexagon Robotics are laying the groundwork for an in-depth collaboration. The goal is to harness the potential of humanoid robots specifically for highly automated manufacturing systems.
“At Fill, innovation has always been a central part of our DNA,” says Alois Wiesinger, CTO of Fill. “AEON opens up new possibilities because it was specifically developed for use in industrial environments. Together with Hexagon Robotics, we are testing humanoid robotics in practical scenarios - always with a focus on measurable customer benefits.”
Arnaud Robert, President of Hexagon Robotics, also sees the partnership as an important milestone: “This collaboration will validate how humanoids can increase autonomy and deliver real value in the manufacturing processes. This includes improving efficiency on production lines, while expanding workforce productivity in complex manufacturing settings, such as high-mix production and precision assembly processes.”
Next-generation automation solutions
AEON is designed to work side by side with industrial workers and take on tasks in the areas of handling, inspection, and data collection. The pilot project aims to provide valuable insights into the integration and scalability of humanoid robotics and pave the way for next-generation automation solutions.
