The key to tomorrow's battery recycling.

We cordially invite you to the closing event of the BATTBOX research project.

Together with Graz University of Technology, AVL, and the automotive cluster, we will present the results of a three-year flagship project (FFG-FO999897798) that sets new standards for a sustainable circular economy in electromobility.

When:
Wednesday, March 18, 2026 - 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Where:
Fill Gesellschaft m.b.H., Fillstraße 1, 4942 Gurten

Circular Battery Solutions

The BATTBOX project has two main goals:

  • Minimizing resource flows and maximizing the recycling of high-quality fractions
  • Increasing product value beyond the vehicle-specific life cycle by developing alternative value chains

The market faces major challenges. Battery designs available today are primarily designed for cost-efficient production - but hardly for reuse, remanufacturing, or recycling. As a result, enormous ecological potential remains untapped. In view of the rapidly increasing share of electric vehicles, a functioning raw materials cycle is more essential than ever. This is exactly where BATTBOX comes in.

BATTBOX

A research project with a holistic approach

The project investigated the critical factors influencing the handling and processing of battery systems in order to enable cycle-oriented use. To this end, both operational and strategic measures for technical de-manufacturing were developed - including requirements for future eco-battery design.

Verifiable concepts for optimized recycling processes were developed that enable the removal of reusable assemblies. Where this is not possible, flexible disassembly and recycling processes were developed, adapted to the respective component depth. A particular milestone is the morphological process toolkit that has been developed, which identifies the best overall de-manufacturing strategy for different battery types - an innovative approach that reduces dependence on critical metal imports in the long term and strengthens European manufacturers.

Learn firsthand about the technical and economic solutions BATTBOX provides for the future of the battery circular economy, how modern dismantling and recycling processes need to be designed, and what impact this has on sustainability, security of supply, and the e-mobility market.

BATTBOX is a key strategic project and marks the starting point for a new generation of recyclable battery systems.

We look forward to presenting the results to you and taking a look at the future value chain of e-mobility together.
