Fill hands over new development to LINZ Institute of Technology.
In cooperation with partner ENGEL, FILL has developed a consolidation unit for the production of high-quality composite components. In this process, layers of continuous fiber-reinforced recyclable plastic tapes are fused (consolidated) under temperature and high pressure to form a homogeneous semi-finished product. Even high-temperature plastics at 450° C, as used in aerospace, can be processed reliably, flexibly and with consistent quality using this system.
The technology of the consolidation system is particularly impressive due to its short cycle times. Whereas other systems available on the market require several minutes, in some cases even hours, the output of the fiber composites in the FILL/ENGEL development takes place in a 60-second cycle.
The consolidation unit was handed over on April 15, 2021 to the LIT Factory, a teaching, learning and research factory for smart plastics processing and digitalization on the JKU campus funded by the FFG, the state of Upper Austria and the city of Linz. Essential scientific work on this topic has been awarded and is already in full swing.
