Core removal typically takes place in a two-stage process. In the first step, the core is broken by targeted hammer blows on the light metal component. In the second step, the broken core fragments are removed from the casting using a high-energy vibration system. Previously, process design was only experience-based due to the lack of simulation tools. Now, for the first time, it is possible to predict areas and extent of core failure with sufficient accuracy by hammer blows.
